[ARCHIVED] Hampton Roads localities urge residents to do their part to stop the spread of COVID

Oct. 5, 2020 - Hampton Roads’ localities together created a message for residents:  "It's in Our Hands," to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Hampton Roads.

The public service campaign reminds residents that if they do things that have been proven to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus — wearing a mask, social distancing, and frequent hand-washing and disinfecting — we will again be able to enjoy some of our favorite activities in the region.

All 17 localities that comprise the Hampton Roads region participated. The effort was coordinated by the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission.

Hampton will participate by sharing a video that includes both the prevention measures and a visual reminder of the kinds of activities that are special to many in the region. Hampton’s popular Blackbeard Festival is featured.

Starting today, residents will see the video on local city websites, plus images on municipal social media platforms, billboards and e-newsletters.

"By following CDC guidelines, we all can help get back to the things we love within the region such as attending amusement parks, local festivals, concerts, and sporting events,” said Danielle Spach, HRPDC All-Hazards Emergency Planner.
