Dec. 7, 2020 — Hampton Public Library patrons have access to audiobooks online again, now offered through Overdrive, which also offers its full catalog of ebooks.

Users can choose from thousands of eBooks and eAudiobooks, from classics to new bestsellers. Read or listen on your computer or mobile device. Download the OverDrive or Libby app from your app store and search for "Library of Virginia" to get started.

Hampton access to the RBdigital online audiobook service ended Sept. 30. Since then, library users have been without audiobook access while the Overdrive service was being completed.

Users can go to the library's Online Resources page for more online services and to access Overdrive.

Users are able to access ebooks and comics through the Hoopla digital service, among other online services.

Additionally, library customers can go online to browse items and request books or other materials. From the library home page, click on Library Catalogs on the left side. You can search the collection for a title or author, or you can follow links for popular materials in different genres and for different ages. (You also can call the library and request books.)

The library branches are open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1-5 p.m. on Saturdays, with the following policies:

  • All patrons over 5 years old MUST wear a mask (unless there is a medical reason) in order to come into the library.
  • All patrons over 5 years old will have their temperature checked at the door, and must have a safe temperature before they may enter.
  • Patrons will be able to come in and use the library and services for one hour per day.
  • Patrons who wish to use the Special Collections Room will have to call to make an appointment.

The library will continue its curbside service Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. only.  Patrons will need to call the library when they’re notified of their holds if they wish to schedule curbside service.

In addition to books, the library has a large collection of DVDs, audio books and music CDs.
