As of January 13, 2020, the below COVID-19 changes are in effect:

  • Police Headquarters located at 40 Lincoln Street is CLOSED to the public. Citizens are encouraged to handle police-related business by telephone or by appointment only
  • Filing Police Reports — Many reports can be filed over the telephone. Citizens can dial the non-emergency number at 757–727–6111 to be put in touch with an officer. 
  • Records Requests — Many records requests can be completed virtually. We encourage citizens to call 757–727–6540 or email policerecords@hampton.gov before responding in person. In-person requests will be handled by appointment only. The records unit is open Monday-Friday from 9 AM to 3:30PM.
  • Accident Reports — Individuals who are involved in accidents can request a copy of the accident report by submitting an e-mail request to policerecords@hampton.gov and attaching a scan or photo of a government-issued ID.
  • Fingerprinting — Fingerprinting will be handled by appointment only. Only court-ordered fingerprinting requests will be accommodated at this time. Those seeking fingerprinting services must arrive prior to 2:30 p.m.
  • Property and Evidence — The Property and Evidence Unit is handling property claims on a case-by-case basis by appointment only. Contact 757–727–6549 to make arrangements.
  • Tow Sheets — If your vehicle is towed by police, tow sheets can still be picked up at the front vestibule of Police Headquarters located at 40 Lincoln Street. A staff member will assist you via the intercom.
  • Sex Offender Registration — Registration can be completed by calling the Records Unit at 757–727–6540 or email policerecords@hampton.gov to make an appointment.
