[ARCHIVED] Hampton's main COVID-19 vaccination clinic moves to Coliseum

April 27, 2021 – The large vaccination clinic in Hampton moves to the Hampton Coliseum this week, as the state takes the lead in operating the clinic. It opens Thursday, April 29.

Previously, the clinic was at the Hampton Roads Convention Center, as part of Operation Vaccinate the Peninsula, a consortium that includes six local governments, three hospital/medical systems, and the local offices of the Virginia Department of Health. People who got their first shot there will receive information on how to schedule their second shot.

“I am so proud that hundreds of our city staff have helped to run the clinic for the past 12 weeks. It truly was a Herculean effort that delivered almost 40,000 shots,” said City Manager Mary Bunting.

“I also thank the Virginia Department of Emergency Management for continuing and expanding clinic operations, so that our staff can get back to their regular jobs and open more of our city facilities.  The sooner everyone receives a vaccine, the sooner we can return to doing all the things that make Hampton a special place.”

The Hampton clinic will operate Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Vaccinations are by appointment only and no walk-ins will be accepted. Register for any day here

The Coliseum clinic will provide the second shot for people who received their first dose at the Hampton Roads Convention Center; information will be emailed to those recipients. People who have transportation needs can register for a bus pass by calling Hampton's 3-1-1 Citizen Contact Center at 727-8311.

Individuals 18 years of age and older will be able to schedule their own appointments; check hampton.gov/covid for scheduling at any Peninsula clinic; call 1-877-829-4682, or visit vaccinate.virginia.gov. Additional languages are available.

Below are some helpful hints for the public who are scheduled to visit one of these sites:

  • Please plan to arrive no earlier than 20 minutes prior to your appointment time.
  • Please plan to bring a copy of your invitation (email, text, barcode) or proof of your name when you arrive at the site.
  • People who are 16 and 17 are able to receive the Pfizer vaccine only. They must have a parent or guardian with them and show proof of age. Clinic signups indicate what vaccine is being used that day.

This community vaccination center will not replace other local, small-scale efforts to deliver COVID-19. This site is state-managed and made possible thanks to FEMA funding granted to Virginia for the state’s continued response to COVID-19.
