[ARCHIVED] Democratic Primary will be held June 8, 2021

April 28, 2021 -  Residents who will be 18 or older by the Nov. 2 General Election have until Monday, May 17, to register for the upcoming Democratic Primary on Tuesday, June 8. Early voting in person began April 23 and continues through Saturday, June 5, at the Voter Registrar's Office, 1919 Commerce Drive, Suite 280. Early voting hours are Monday-Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with special hours on two Saturdays, May 29 and June 5, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Election Day, polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. The candidates are:

  • Governor: Terry R. McAuliffe, Jennifer L. McClellan; Jennifer D. Carroll Foy; Lee J. Carter, and Justin E. Fairfax 
  • Lieutenant governor: Hala S. Ayala, S. "Sam" Rasoul, Andria P. McClellan, Sean A. Perryman, Mark H. Levine, and Xavier JaMar Warren 
  • Attorney general: Jerrauld C. "Jay" Jones and Mark R. Herring 
  • Hampton sheriff: John A. Perkins, Karen E. Bowden and Curtis C. Cooper 
  • Hampton treasurer: Chris O. Snead and Tammy B. Ishmael

Updated May 3, 2021 - NOTICE OF WITHDRAWAL: Elizabeth R. Guzman is no longer a candidate for Lieutenant Governor. This candidate withdrew after the ballot had already been printed and therefore still appears on the ballot.

Updated May 5, 2021 - The Republicans opted not to have a primary this year. Instead, they are having a virtual convention, with 53,324 people selected as delegates. They are the only people who can vote.
