[ARCHIVED] Flash flood watch in effect as fast-moving Tropical Storm Elsa moves up the East Coast

bad-weather-nf-1

July 8, 2021 - The National Weather Service said a flash flood watch is in effect for most local areas through late tonight as Tropical Storm Elsa continues to move up the coast. Tropical storm warnings are in effect for portions of northeast North Carolina, southeast and eastern Virginia, and the lower Eastern Shore. Elsa is expected to move across North Carolina and into Virginia this afternoon and evening.

Tropical storm winds and 2-4 inches of rain are expected, with scattered flash flooding. The National Weather Service also said tornadoes are possible as Elsa rolls across the area.

City officials, including Emergency Management, police, fire, and public works, continue to monitor the storm and will provide updates on its movements. You can also go online to visit the National Weather Service in Wakefield for more information.
