Jan. 5, 2021 — Hampton residents who have suffered financial hardship due to the Covid-19 pandemic can seek assistance through the Virginia Mortgage Relief Program. The program, which uses $250 million in federal relief funds, was established to help residents of the commonwealth to ease mortgage delinquencies and defaults and to avoid foreclosures.

The VMRP is open to homeowners who claim Virginia as their primary residence and who can show financial difficulty caused at least in part by the pandemic. The funds can be made available to residents who owe less than $30,000 and who have no housing expense payments more than 20 months delinquent.

Applicants will have to show identification and a loan number, and will have to prove ownership, residency, hardship and other relevant details.

To learn more about the program, go online to VirginiaMortageRelief.com or call 833-687-8677. Several frequently asked questions about VMRP eligibility are answered here.
