jcap

March 25 — The office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney in Hampton is accepting applications for a free summer program that will allow local students to learn about all aspects of criminal justice through interaction with professionals.

The Junior Commonwealth’s Attorney Program is an effort to reduce crime and violence through early intervention and educational outreach. The program runs from Aug. 8-12 and is open to students who will be entering the seventh through 10th grades in the fall.

Students who participate in the program will interact with law enforcement officers, attorneys and other professionals in the criminal justice field. These students will observe courtroom procedures and will visit not only the police training academy, but also the state capitol building and the office of the Attorney General.

Students can expect to participate in 911 simulation calls, K9 and SWAT demonstrations and forensics will be brought over to students.

The deadline for application is May 27.
