Sept. 19, 2023 - Additional apartments and townhouses for Peninsula Town Center are on the agenda for the Planning Commission meeting on Thursday. The meeting begins at 3:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers at City Hall, 22 Lincoln St. It is open to the public and streamed Hampton.gov/livetv and air on Cox 47 and Verizon 22.

The for-rent townhouses are proposed to be located along Cunningham Drive and Hartford Road, outside the parking area. There would be 21 townhome apartments, and residents would have the use of the amenities at The Chapman apartments.

In another location, the commission will consider a proposal to turn former first-floor retail space into nine one-story apartment. The back half of the building, which faces McMenamin Street, would remain retail.

The commission will also consider:

  • Formally adding two new water plans -- for Newmarket Creek and for downtown, Phoebus, and Buckroe -- to the Comprehensive Plan. That makes them part of the city's main land-use planning guide.
  • An application for a short-term rental at 507 Whealton Road. That may get put on hold while City Council reviews some policies about short-term rentals.
