Sept. 25, 2023 - City Council will meet Wednesday to talk about programs and activities designed to offer alternatives to violence, drugs, and gang involvement; address trauma; and support to people leaving incarceration.
The afternoon work session at 1 p.m. will focus on the Youth and Young Adult Opportunities Office, which connects Hampton families and neighborhoods with resources that improve well-being and safety From community engagement to family services. The staff will recap the results of programs from the past year and share plans for this fiscal year.
At 6 p.m., the Council Spotlight will recognize several volunteers of the Mayors Book Club who read to children, help with book fairs, and promote early literacy.
In the 6:30 p.m. business meeting, they will consider:
- A rezoning application to allow a storage facility for recreational vehicles and boats on Potter Lane
- A use permit to allow a veterinarian office in the the Petco store in Coliseum Crossing.
- Allow New Cingular Wireless to continue a lease on a section of city-owned property on Butler Farm Road
- Allow VDOT access through city property to work on VDOT property by the city landfill
