Oct. 25, 2023 - A discussion about parking requirements has been added to City Council's agenda for the 1 p.m. work session. At that time, Council will also hear about the strategic plan for Hampton Roads Transit and discuss legislative requests for the upcoming General Assembly session.

At the 6:30 p.m. meeting, Council will consider a proposal to give the City Treasurer additional flexibility in creating payment plans for people who are delinquent on their taxes. The current law requires that payments apply first to the oldest bill. By allowing some of that money to apply to current bills - in some cases - the treasurer believes that it will help reduce the amount of  fees and interest a citizen has to pay and also encourage repayment.

The parking requirements are the city's rules about how much parking a new business or development must provide. Some cities have done away with minimums as an incentive for more dense retail development in certain areas or throughout the city as a whole. The idea is to make a city - or certain areas of a city - more walkable and enhance the use of bikes and transit.   

At the special Council Spotlight at 6 p.m., some of the volunteers who help Hampton Public Library will be honored.

All three meetings are open to the public and will be held in City council Chambers on the 8th floor of City Hall, 22 Lincoln Street. They will be broadcast on Cox 47 and Verizon 22 channels and streamed at hampton.gov/livetv.
