Payment Methods - How can I make a tax payment?
  • Payment can be made by mail, in person, by dropbox or online.
  • When paying by mail, please make checks and money orders payable to the Hampton City Treasurer and mail to P.O. Box 638, Hampton, VA 23669. 
  • The Treasurer’s Office is located at 1 Franklin Street in the Ruppert Leon Sargent Memorial building in Downtown Hampton.  
  • Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • In-person, we accept payment by cash, money order, check, credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover) and debit cards that have a Visa or MasterCard logo.  Payment by credit or debit card will be assessed at a 1.25% convenience fee.
  • We do not accept rolled coins as a form of payment.
  • Payments received or postmarked by midnight of the due date will be considered as on time. All late payments will be assessed penalty, interest and fees in accordance with the Virginia Code.
  • Payments received from a banking institutions’ online banking service must be received in the Treasurer’s Office on or before the due date. Contact your banking institution to determine the processing time required to ensure your payment is received on time. 
  • The Treasurer’s Office drop box is located at the entrance of the Ruppert Leon Sargent Memorial building on the corner of Franklin Street and Queens Way. Please make checks and money orders payable to the Hampton City Treasurer. Payments placed in the drop box up until midnight of the due date will be considered as on time.
  • Payments by check or by Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover can be made online. A convenience fee of $1.00 will be assessed for payment by check and a fee of $1.00 plus 1.25% of the total transaction will be assessed for all online credit card payments. Payments with a time stamp up to midnight of the due date will be considered as on time.
