Christmas is Here starring Kimberley Locke

Tennessee native and American Idol runner-up Kimberley Locke has been singing and performing since she was 8 years old, drawing inspiration from Hollywood’s big names, such as Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Patti LaBelle. In 2004, Locke released her debut album “One Love” and her hit single “8th World Wonder” reached the top half of the Billboard Hot 100. In 2011, Kimberley started her own label, I Am Entertainment, and released her first dance-themed album “Four for the Floor” and later that year released a cover of “Silver Bells”. Outside of singing, Kimberley is heavily involved in charity work, particularly raising awareness for HIV/AIDS and breast cancer. She has worked with charities such as YouthAIDS, the Davy Foundation, and is a member of the Entertainment Council of Feeding America, the nation’s leading hunger-relief organization. Phoebus Holiday Illumination and Market

Beautiful historic Phoebus will turn into a holiday wonderland from 10 AM -6 PM. This street fest will feature local food vendors, handmade works from 50+ local artisans, raffle, DJ, kids’ activities, ugly sweater contest, and tree lighting. Free and open to the public.

Squirrel Nut Zippers Christmas Caravan

The Squirrel Nut Zippers are an American swing band that formed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 1993. Their music style is a mix of Delta blues, gypsy jazz, 1930s swing, klezmer, and other styles. The term “Nut Zippers” is a southern term for a variety of old bootleg moonshine and the band’s name comes from a newspaper story about an intoxicated man who climbed a tree and refused to come down even after police arrived. The headline was “Squirrel Nut Zipper.” They found success during the swing revival of the late 1990s with their 1996 single hit, “Hell”, written by vocalist and guitarist Tom Maxwell. Their second album, Hot (1996), was certified platinum and was also one of the first enhanced CDs, containing an interactive presentation created by filmmaker Clay Walker. This holiday season, take a musical trip back in time and find out what the Squirrel Nut Zippers are all about!

Downtown Lighted Boat Parade

The Hampton River will come to life as a fleet of decorated boats parade past the Downtown Hampton waterfront. Don’t miss the fun Saturday, December 16, 2023. The Landings Hotel and Bull Island Brewery will offer fun holiday treats, hot chocolate and adult holiday beverages for purchase. The Colonial Singers and Brass wind will entertain spectators throughout the evening beginning at 5:00 pm, alternating sets and concluding at 9:00 pm. Don’t miss the party at the Downtown Hampton Maritime Center!

249 Ninja Toy Drive & Food Giveaway

It’s that time of year again! We are hosting our 7th Annual 249 Ninja Toy Drive & Food Giveaway. This event was started in the back room at North Phoebus Community Center and has grown into one of the largest holiday events on the Peninsula over the years. We will continue the tradition of giving and provide a safe place to have some family fun. There will be games, food, a live DJ, raffles, gift giveaways and much more. This is an event you don’t want to miss. We welcome all families to participate and will need volunteers leading up to and on the day of the event.

Teetotalers and Moonshiners, and Hampton’s Prohibition Story

The exhibit combines content from the Virginia Library’s 2017 exhibit “Teetotalers and Moonshiners: Virginia’s Prohibition Experiment” with research and artifacts from the Hampton History Museum on the local experience. "Hampton's Prohibition Story" features myriad items to tell the story, including dozens of photographs; numerous bottles, jugs and other containers; games, smoking accoutrements, beverage dispenser, signs and materials of saloon culture; service ware, promotional items and memorabilia from Point Comfort resorts, Phoebus police and fire department items, doctor bag and instruments; and moonshine still components on loan from the Museum of the Albemarle. The exhibit continues through February 4, 2024.
