    The Buckroe Beach Farmers Market is open each Saturday, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., May 4 through Nov. 16. Sept. 14 is a fitness market (rescheduled from June 1), Sept. 21 will be vintage-themed, and Oct. 19 is a pet market. Vendors will be located on the grassy area surrounding the Buckroe Beach gazebo and will sell local produce, baked goods, sausage, seafood, jarred food items and more.

  8. Apollo Moon Landing 50th Anniversary

In celebration of NASA’s 50th Anniversary of the Apollo Program, NASA Langley Research Center will provide hands-on activities and exhibits focusing on its contributions to the Apollo program, plans to return to the Moon and the Artemis program. Enjoy interactive programs. Create spacecraft with LEGOs. Leave your mark on a scale model of a Saturn 5 rocket. Get a kick out of shooting a stomp rocket into the sky. Learn more about the role of "Human Computers" at NASA. See historic footage of the 1969 moon landing, and hear about NASA's plans to return to the moon in 2024.   9. Downtown Block Party: Ghost-Note with Fuzz Band

    Headed by Snarky Puppy’s multi Grammy–winning percussion duo of Robert Sput Searight and Nate Werth, Ghost-Note is an explosion of sound. With an expansive roster of next-level musicians — representing members of Prince, Snoop Dogg, Erykah Badu, Herbie Hancock, Kendrick Lamar, Marcus Miller, Toto, Justin Timberlake, and more — the band is pushing funk music into the future, building on the uplifting, pioneering foundations laid out by the likes of James Brown and Sly & The Family Stone and infusing their fresh take with tastes of afrobeat, hip-hop, psychedelia, world folklore, and more. The opening band is Hampton's own The Fuzz Band, whose sound is a fusion of urban & rock music. The band met and formed while attending Hampton University. Locally, the band has won multiple awards as Best R&B, Best Live Performer, and Best Song & Album recipients. Nationally, The Fuzz has gotten national attention in multiple magazines.

  10. Langley Speedway: 11th Annual Hampton Heat

    In its 11th year, the Hampton Heat 200 returns to Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway for the annual event that draws several dozen racing teams and thousands of fans to the short track. Free tickets are available to Hampton residents and employees 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Hampton Visitor Center, 120 Old Hampton Lane. A limit of four tickets per household applies.

  11. Phoebus Jazz Summer Music Series

    Queen Esther Marrow will perform July 20, as will Sinnett’s "Zero to 60" band featuring Burrell, sax player Ralph Bowen and pianist Allen Farnham. The July 13 show in the series will include performances by renowned trumpeter Randy Brecker, pianist Cyrus Chestnut and Virginia Beach native Justin Kauflin, who has recorded albums with Quincy Jones. Local jazz bandleader, broadcaster and promoter Jae Sinnett will back those artists on drums, alongside bass player Terry Burrell.

    The Waiters Race, presented by Sysco, returns for its fourth year. Competition will begin at 2 p.m. with Colonial DJ. Big change this year, the race is on Sunday, not Saturday. Foodservice professionals race through a series of obstacles holding a loaded tray of Stella Artois, attempting not to spill a drop! Prizes: Individual Division - 1st Place $1,000, 2nd Place $500, and 3rd Place $250; 4-Person Team Division - 1st Place $1,200, 2nd Place $600 and 3rd Place $400 and traveling trophy for your restaurant. There's also an Owner's Division - Bragging Traveling trophy. Wear your restaurant shirt or bring ID for proof of employment. Registration is $10 in advance, $15 at the door. All registration fees will be donated to No Kid Hungry. For advance registration, call 757-727-1271. Food & beverages will be available for purchase.
