  2. Crawlin' Crab Half Marathon, 5K Weekend and Brew Fest

    The Crawlin’ Crab Half Marathon, Half Marathon Relay, 5K run, Kids Kilometer (1K), and Craft Brew Fest return Oct. 4-6.   3. Buckroe Beach Farmers Market

    The Buckroe Beach Farmers Market is open each Saturday, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., May 4 through Nov. 16. Sept. 14 is a fitness market (rescheduled from June 1), Sept. 21 will be vintage-themed, and Oct. 19 is a pet market. Because of other events, there is no market on Aug. 31 and Sept. 7. Vendors will be located on the grassy area surrounding the Buckroe Beach gazebo and will sell local produce, baked goods, sausage, seafood, jarred food items and more.

  4. Get Set 4 All Veterans Health Fair and Adapted Sports Day

    Get Set 4 All, Inc. and Alliance for Veterans Health Organization, an affiliate of Virginia VFW, have partnered to bring a Veterans Health Fair and to introduce Get Set 4 All's Adapted Sports and Activities Program to our community. By registering, you may participate in the health fair, learn about our adapted sports and activities program offered at Ft. Monroe Community Center, as well receive a complimentary breakfast and lunch. Afterward, stay and watch a wheelchair basketball game featuring our very own Sun Wheelers Wheelchair Basketball Team beginning at 1:30 p.m. following the Health Fair.

  5. Girls in Aviation Day

    The Southeastern Virginia Chapter of Women in Aviation, International (WAI) will host its inaugural Girls in Aviation Day to introduce girls to the possibilities available in a career in aviation in support of the Virginia Air & Space Center's STEM Saturdays. Admission is free to girls age 3-18. Attendees can talk to women in various fields of aviation and aerospace and participate in hands-on activities, such as a Sectional Scavenger Hunt, Build-A-Plane, Talk Like an Aviator (learn aviation phonetics), Ask a Pilot/Mechanic, Aviation Dress-up, build and launch a rocket, and more. Note: All children must be accompanied by an adult.

  2. 2019 Virginia Artists Juried Exhibition

    This much anticipated, annual juried exhibition showcases the talents of many of Virginia’s finest artists and craftsmen. This exhibition features a $1,500 Best in Show prize; the David J. Levinson Photography Award for $1,000; the David and Sandra Hillerson Memorial Award for $500; as well as awards for First, Second, and Third Places and several awards of distinction in a variety of media. Artworks from all styles, genres, and media will be selected. This year, the Visual Arts Center is honored to welcome Jeffrey Allison, the Paul Mellon Collection educator at VMFA, as juror for the exhibition. Mr. Allison, also a professional photographer, received a BA in photography and film from Virginia Intermont College and an MFA in photography from VCU.

A Hampton resident born in Danville, Virginia, he began painting at the age of 15, has exhibited internationally, and has received countless awards.

  4. A Taste of the Beautiful: African Impact on American Culture

    “A Taste for the Beautiful” showcases the works of numerous artists that have attended Hampton University, and have been influenced directly and indirectly by African culture. This show includes works by guest artists Kwabena Ampfo-Anti, Chinedu Okala, and Solomon Isekeije, who provide powerful visual statements that relate to HUMA’s African Gallery and Dr. William H. Shepherd’s extensive collection of Kuba artifacts. These artists work in a variety of styles and media; this show aims to provide them long overdue recognition.

  2. Haunted Horse Rides at the Hampton Carousel

Thank you! “Trick or Treating with the Headless Horseman” and free candy are part of the fun in store for visitors to “Haunted Horse Rides” at the historic Hampton Carousel Tuesday through Sunday, October 1 through November 3, 11 am - 8 pm. Located in Carousel Park, Downtown Hampton, the Hampton Carousel will be decorated for the season of ghosts and goblins, with costumed carousel staff giving candy to visitors. The finely carved and painted horses will also be decorated, with one of the horses occupied by the infamous Headless Horseman.
