  1. Mayflower Marathon Holiday Food Drive

    Help provide meals to those that struggle with hunger in our community this Thanksgiving. It’s as easy as driving by and dropping off donations while our spirited volunteers cheer you on and DJs broadcast on the radio. The event benefits the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank and is sponsored by FM99 and 106.9 The Fox. This 57-hour food and fund drive takes place in the parking lot in front of Gabe's. Most needed items are frozen turkeys, canned fruits and vegetables, instant potatoes, family-size boxes of rice, hearty meaty soups, gravy, cereals, 100% juice, spaghetti/pasta meals, canned meats (tuna, chicken, ham), peanut butter and jelly, and monetary donations.

    This dynamic photo and artifact-rich experience explores Hampton's integral ties to, and love of, the water that surrounds the city, its seafood and maritime heritage, and passion for sailing as embodied in the locally developed Hampton One sailboat, and the competitive sailing culture that grew out of it.

  2. 2019 Virginia Artists Juried Exhibition

    November 23, 2019, 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM @ Charles Taylor Visual Arts Center - Main Gallery

    This much anticipated, annual juried exhibition showcases the talents of many of Virginia’s finest artists and craftsmen. This exhibition features a $1,500 Best in Show prize; the David J. Levinson Photography Award for $1,000; the David and Sandra Hillerson Memorial Award for $500; as well as awards for First, Second, and Third Places and several awards of distinction in a variety of media. Artworks from all styles, genres, and media will be selected. This year, the Visual Arts Center is honored to welcome Jeffrey Allison, the Paul Mellon Collection educator at VMFA, as juror for the exhibition. Mr. Allison, also a professional photographer, received a BA in photography and film from Virginia Intermont College and an MFA in photography from VCU.

  3. Sherman Watkins: Something for Everyone

    Virginia Artists 2018 Best in Show Winner Sherman Watkins presents his solo exhibition, Something for Everyone, in the Annex Gallery. Watkins is an Air Force veteran and retired illustrator from the United States Air Force Space Shuttle Program. A Hampton resident born in Danville, Virginia, he began painting at the age of 15, has exhibited internationally, and has received countless awards.

  4. A Taste of the Beautiful: African Impact on American Culture

    “A Taste for the Beautiful” showcases the works of numerous artists that have attended Hampton University, and have been influenced directly and indirectly by African culture. This show includes works by guest artists Kwabena Ampfo-Anti, Chinedu Okala, and Solomon Isekeije, who provide powerful visual statements that relate to HUMA’s African Gallery and Dr. William H. Shepherd’s extensive collection of Kuba artifacts. These artists work in a variety of styles and media; this show aims to provide them long overdue recognition.

  2. Winter Whimsy at the Hampton Carousel

    November 12, 2019, 11:00 AM - December 29, 2019, 8:00 PM @ Hampton Carousel in Carousel Park

    Make new holiday memories while enjoying festively adorned horses and the historic Hampton Carousel decked out for the season, along with special carousel organ-type Christmas music. Enjoy a free candy cane while enjoying a wintry spin back in time on this 1920s artistic marvel. Get your carousel fix before we close for the winter! The carousel will open for the season on April 1. Free admission. Rides $1. Hours 11 am to 8 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. Closed Mondays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Operated by the Hampton History Museum, the Hampton Carousel is located in Carousel Park, 602 Settlers Landing Road in Downtown Hampton. There is free garage and on-street parking.
