  1. Hampton Carousel

    After being closed for over a year due to the pandemic, the Hampton Carousel opens for the 2021 season on June 1 with COVID protocols. Located in Carousel Park and operated by the Hampton History Museum, the former Buckroe Beach carousel is one of the City of Hampton’s most treasured historic assets. Built in 1920, the carousel is completely restored to its original beauty and housed in its own weather-protected pavilion at Carousel Park on the city’s downtown waterfront. It is one of only 170 antique wooden merry-go-rounds still existing in the U.S. Hand crafted by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company for the Buckroe Beach Amusement Park, Hampton's Carousel is a whirling tribute to the skill of its creators. The Hampton Carousel will operate under federal, state and City of Hampton COVID-19 protocols. Guests will be required to wear masks when inside the carousel building, practice social distancing, and use hand-sanitizer before and after rides.

  2. Sigma Series: Stopping the COVID Pandemic

    The vaccines for COVID-19 were developed in record time, and if herd immunity can be reached, they offer society the only realistic means of returning to pre-pandemic norms. Dr. Paul Offit, director of the Vaccine Education Center at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, will discuss the science behind these vaccines, along with their efficacy and safety. He will describe how herd immunity is achieved and counter some of the misinformation that may be keeping it from being achieved. Finally, Dr. Offit will share his thoughts on the new COVID-19 variants and how we will need to deal with Coronavirus variants in the future.
