  1. 1619 Commemoration of the First Enslaved African Landing

    Fort Monroe Continental Park

    The 1619 Commemoration of the First Enslaved African Landing will take place Friday and Saturday, Aug. 20 and 21. In 1619 the first Africans arrived in English North America at Fort Monroe's Point Comfort. At 11 a.m. Friday a special ceremony will be held at the Tucker family cemetery, 1 Sharon Court. Family members believe they are descended from the first African Americans born in English-speaking America. On Saturday at Fort Monroe Continental Park, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., activist KRS-One will be keynote speaker at Fort Monroe, there will be a national bell-ringing ceremony, and musician Delfeayo Marsalis will perform at the Evolution of Freedom Concert. The programs are free and open to the public. Food and merchandise vendors will be on site.

    Carousel Park & Hampton Carousel

    Take a Spin Back in Time! Located in Carousel Park and operated by the Hampton History Museum, the former Buckroe Beach carousel is one of the City of Hampton’s most treasured historic assets. Built in 1920, the carousel is completely restored to its original beauty and housed in its own weather-protected pavilion at Carousel Park on the city’s downtown waterfront. It is one of only 170 antique wooden merry-go-rounds still existing in the U.S. Hand crafted by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company for the Buckroe Beach Amusement Park, Hampton's Carousel is a whirling tribute to the skill of its creators. The Hampton Carousel will operate under federal, state and City of Hampton COVID-19 protocols. Guests will be required to wear masks when inside the carousel building, practice social distancing, and use hand-sanitizer before and after rides.

  1. Buckroe Beach Farmers Market

    The Buckroe Beach Farmers Market is open each Saturday, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., May 1 through Oct. 30. Themed market days are May 22 (Fitness Day), Sept. 25 (Pet Day), and Oct. 23 (Vintage Market). Themed market day hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. There is no market on May 29 (Memorial Day weekend), June 5, July 3, July 17, Aug. 28 and Sept. 11. Vendors will be located on the grassy area surrounding the Buckroe Beach gazebo and will sell local produce, baked goods, sausage, seafood, jarred food items and more.
